Selecting Your Agent

At some point during your search to buy or sell a Markham home, you will need the services or at least the advice of a real estate agent. Selecting an agent can be confusing and stressful, yet there are methods of determining which agent is right for you to buy or sell your home, and get the pricing and deal details that you are looking for.

There are several questions to ask a prospective realtor, so set up a few mini interviews with many different realtors to narrow down your options. Some examples of questions you ask may be: Do you work as a full time Real Estate Agent? If the answer is yes, then you can be sure that they are committed to their profession, and will be dedicated to selling your home. Yet if this is a part time venture for them, other issues such as their family life or other career may take center stage for them, leaving you and your Markham home for sale in the background.

You could also ask: How do you market your property? Are you marketing real estate on the internet? Having a wide exposure base is the key for selling anything, and this is especially true in real estate. If consumers are unaware of your home being on the market it will take longer to sell, yet if it is advertised in many ways (online, in print etc) you are simply going to have more traffic coming through the doors. Online exposure to millions of people instantly will lead to a quicker sale and getting the price you want because of the competition. Many individuals looking for Toronto relocation do all of their searching online, so getting your home into these databases should be top priority for your agent's marketing scheme.

It may also be important to ask if they are affiliated with a mortgage broker and if they have underwriting experience? Ask if they have dealt with both small and large mortgages, since the more experience your realtor has in this area the better it will be for you and the sale of your home.
If the agent you are interviewing does not answer the above questions to your satisfaction, you should probably find another who does! These questions may seem redundant, yet it is important to build a trusting relationship with your realtor and being upfront is the best way to begin this business relationship. There are so many real estate agents in and around Markham, so shop around and find someone you trust and have confidence in. Once you have found the right realtor they can offer you advice on everything from showings to pricing.

Now that you know the basics of what is important to consider when choosing a realtor, you can begin contacting Markham agents, and have mini interviews with them (over the phone or in person). There are literally hundreds of agents competing for your business, and your realtor, Toronto to Vancouver should know the area well. Choosing someone who has been working in Markham for several years is a safe bet, yet don't discount the less experienced agents, since they bring fresh ideas and tons of energy to the process. Being prepared for this selection process is a sure way to find the right agent for you!
