With a population of over 200 000 people (which is expected to boom in the next decade) Markham is a city of opportunity. Some of the companies within the city include such hi-tech giants as Ati, IBM, Motorola, and more. The top business sector in Markham is the Business services sector at 28.7%, followed closely by Trade (25%) and Manufacturing (19.8%). However, the manufacturing industry is mostly geared towards the manufacture of computer systems and related gear, and office furniture. Meaning that there is even more Hi-tech industry in Markham than just the development part. The fastest growing business sector however is construction, a direct result of the prosperity to be found in Markham.
