Main Street Markham CARnival!: Each year the city puts on a fabulous auto show that is really so much more than that. Main street is a great place to dine, shop and stroll through the original historic downtown area. This event is held on a Saturday in July each summer, and beginning in 2009, the new Artists' Alley is an excellent added feature of this fun festival, which includes free pottery demonstrations and a totally free pottery lesson from the fabulous Village Pottery Studio. Another great event that is held annually in Markham is the Greek Summer Festival: This festival is held over two glorious sunny weekends in July, with a full itinerary of planned events and activities that the whole family will surely enjoy. This event is held at the St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church, located at 11359 Warden Ave (just north of Elgin Mills). The annual Greek Summer Festival is a great opportunity to enjoy amazing live traditional Greek music, which commences in the evening and runs all night; and it is free to the public thanks to donations from local sponsors. The festival also features delicious traditional as well as modern Greek cuisine, folk dance performances, a popular raffle and as if that were not enough, there is also a mini amusement park for the kids. And finally, don't miss the Markham Village Farmers' Market. A local tradition for many generations, this is the place to find the freshest produce, handmade jams, jellies and fudge, and tons of nifty arts and crafts. Located right in the heart of the downtown Markham Village on Robson Street, the Farmers' Market famously captures the beloved traditions of the past. Markham Village Farmers' Market is open every Saturday morning from early in the spring to mid-fall.
